Born on August 20, 1968 in Mackay, Queensland, Australia, Brondello developed her love for basketball at a young age and went on to become one of Australia’s all-time great guards. She played professionally in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) for multiple teams after being drafted in 1998, earning a WNBA All-Star selection and representing her country at four Olympic Games, winning three medals for the Australian Opals.
What Sandy speaks on.
Sandy Brondello knows what it means to start on day one.
As the inaugural Head Coach of the Toronto Tempo, the WNBA’s first franchise outside the United States, Sandy isn’t stepping into an existing system or legacy. She’s building one. From the ground up. New organization. New players. New expectations.
In this keynote, Sandy takes audiences inside the real work of building a team when there is no shared history, no shortcuts, and no margin for error. Drawing on decades of experience as a championship coach in the WNBA, an Olympic medalist, and a leader trusted to launch a brand new franchise, she breaks down how strong cultures are intentionally built long before results show up.
This is a practical and grounded look at leadership in its hardest phase. Setting standards before momentum exists. Building trust before wins arrive. Aligning people from different backgrounds around a single mission. Making the early decisions that define culture when pressure inevitably hits.
Audiences will walk away with clear lessons on how to Build culture before momentum Create clarity and accountability in uncertain environments Turn individual talent into collective performance Develop a winning mindset that shows up every day, not just when things are going well
This is not a retrospective success story. It is leadership in real time. For organizations navigating growth, change, or a true reset, Sandy offers rare insight from someone actively doing the work of building something that has never existed before.
